Some gardens are past a tidy-up. Buy a house that has stood empty, take a rental back at the end of a tenancy, or just let a corner go for a few years, and you end up with brambles chest high, ivy up every fence and self-set sycamore and buddleia growing where the lawn used to be. That is where a full garden clearance comes in: everything cut, grubbed out and carted away, not strimmed flat and left to spring back by June.
Being tree surgeons makes a difference on this kind of job. Plenty of overgrown plots have real trees hiding in the growth, and a general gardener has to stop where the trunks get thick. We fell them, dismantle anything awkward near fences and sheds, and grind the stumps out so nothing pushes back up through the ground you have just cleared. A clearance with mature trees in it is a normal day for us, not a reason to call someone else in.
Paperwork comes before the chainsaws on some plots. Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas do not care that a tree seeded itself: a TPO’d tree needs a council application before any work, and in a conservation area the council needs six weeks’ written notice for any tree with a trunk wider than 75mm measured 1.5m up. We check all of that before we quote and handle the council side with you. Then the clearance is done in sections, cut and loaded as we go, and you get back a workable blank garden rather than a scorched mess. Checks, then the clearance
Anything tree-sized is checked against TPO and conservation area rules, and the whole plot gets a look for active nests. Then we work through it in sections, cutting, pulling roots and loading as we go.

There is no such thing for a clearance, the question is only how long it takes. Ten years of brambles, ivy that has swallowed the fence and self-set trees taller than the house are all standard fare for us. Yes. Brash, brambles, trunks, roots and hedge material all get loaded and taken away as part of the job, and we sweep up behind ourselves before we leave. If you would rather keep some logs for the burner or woodchip for mulch, say so and we will stack them neatly instead of loading them.
Easily, and it is often the right call. A decent apple tree or an established shrub takes years to replace, so walk the plot with us and point out what stays. We mark it, work carefully around it, and can prune whatever you are keeping while we are there, so the whole garden gets a fresh start rather than just the cleared parts.
We stop and tell you. Knotweed spreads from tiny fragments of root and stem, so cutting it or grubbing it out with the rest of the clearance makes the problem worse. It needs a specialist treatment plan, not a chainsaw, and we are honest about that. We will point it out, clear the rest of the plot around it and leave the knotweed itself for a specialist to deal with.
Usually, with a check first. Nesting season runs roughly February to August and active nests are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, and an overgrown garden is prime nesting habitat, so we look through the growth before anything is cut. Clearance work is not banned in spring and summer, it just needs care. If we find an active nest we leave that patch standing and finish it once the young have flown.
