The south of the city has some of the biggest garden trees in the city. Old Trafford and Firswood carry M16 postcodes but sit in Trafford, while Whalley Range, Chorlton and Didsbury come under Manchester City Council, whose patch includes conservation areas at Whalley Range, Chorlton Green, Chorltonville and Didsbury St James. A TPO’d tree needs a council application before any work, and inside a conservation area, six weeks’ written notice covers any tree with a trunk wider than 75mm at 1.5m up.
